This publication, “From the shadows – the political awakening of Malaysian Indians‘, is a final year project from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. In my view this is a very good publication to capture and to put a human face to the numerous Malaysian Indians who are struggling not only for their rights, the rights of minorities but also in doing so, is pushing democratisation further in Malaysia.
All eyes are on Malaysia as it hurtles towards its 13th general election, which is widely expected to be the country’s closest ever political contest. From the Shadows, borne out of six months of fieldwork in peninsula Malaysia, takes a detailed look at the struggles of the country’s marginalised ethnic Indians, and their potential role as kingmakers in the coming landmark polls.
