Jacob Mardell is a postgraduate student of Chinese politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. After living in China, studying the language, and visiting as many provinces as possible, he returned to his native London to attend SOAS. He currently writes political commentary, as well as the occasional piece of travel writing.

This summer, he is travelling to China over land through central Asia, conducting research for his dissertation on China's Belt Road.
